Effective Date: July 26, 2025
Last Updated: July 26, 2025
Overview
The Tab Limiter is a Chrome browser extension designed to help users manage their open tabs by automatically limiting the number of tabs that can be open at one time. This privacy policy explains how our extension handles your data and protects your privacy.
Information We Collect and Use
User Preferences (Stored Locally Only)
The Tab Limiter stores the following user preferences locally on your device:
- Tab Limit Setting: The maximum number of tabs you want to allow (default: 10)
- Enable/Disable Status: Whether the extension is currently active
- Tab Closing Preference: Whether to close oldest or newest tabs when limit is exceeded
- Pinned Tab Protection: Whether to protect pinned tabs from being closed
- Notification Settings: Whether to show notifications when tabs are closed
Storage Method: These preferences are stored using Chrome's storage.sync
API, which means they sync across your Chrome browsers when you're signed into Chrome. This data remains within Google's Chrome ecosystem and is not accessible to us.
Tab Information (Temporary Access Only)
To function properly, The Tab Limiter temporarily accesses the following tab information:
- Tab Count: The total number of open tabs
- Last Accessed Time: When each tab was last viewed (to determine oldest/newest)
- Pinned Status: Whether tabs are pinned (to avoid closing them)
- Tab IDs: Temporary identifiers used only to close specific tabs
Important: We do NOT access, store, or transmit:
- Tab URLs or web addresses
- Page content or browsing data
- Browsing history
- Personal information from websites
- Cookies or form data
How We Use This Information
The information collected is used solely to:
- Enforce Tab Limits: Count your open tabs and close excess tabs when needed
- Respect User Preferences: Close tabs according to your chosen settings (oldest vs newest)
- Protect Important Tabs: Avoid closing pinned tabs per your preference
- Provide Notifications: Alert you when tabs have been closed (if enabled)

- No Remote Storage: We do not maintain servers or databases that store user data

The Tab Limiter requests the following Chrome permissions:

These permissions are used solely for the extension's core functionality and not for data collection.
